Prof Geraldine O’Neill

(BSc, PhD)

Prof O’Neill is Head of The Children’s Cancer Research Unit at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Conjoint Professor of Cancer Cell Biology, Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. She is Deputy Director of the Kids Cancer Alliance Translational Cancer Research Centre, member of the Gene Technology Technical Advisory Committee of the Office of Gene Technology Regulator and member of Scientific Advisory Committees of the Cooperative Trials Group for Neuro-oncology (COGNO) and the Queensland Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Her research bridges insights from cancer cell biology, tissue engineering and biophysics to yield comprehensive understanding of the extracellular contributions to cancer development and response to therapy. She has elucidated fundamental mechanisms of cancer cell interaction with the tumour microenvironment and applies these insights to developing better preclinical cancer models, with a focus on brain cancer.
