(CChem, FRACI)

Prof. Kris Thurecht is senior group leader at the Centre for Advanced Imaging and the Australian Institute for Bioengineering, and is currently the Deputy Director, Imaging Technologies at the Centre for Advanced Imaging. His research focusses on development of nanomedicines, and their application in molecular imaging and therapy.

His team works across the boundaries of chemistry, biology and imaging science to understand how materials interact with biology, and then use this information to develop new pharmaceuticals. He is associate editor of the ACS journal, Molecular Pharmaceutics.

Current Projects & Areas of Interest:

  • Establishment of the alpha therapeutic facility in the Centre for Advanced Imaging (funded by ACRF - $1.2M; NIF - $1.3M).

  • Preclinical project with collaborators evaluating use of nanomedicines to treat GBM (Mark Pinkham, PA Hospital) and breast cancer brain metastases (Sunil Lakhani and Jodi Saunus, UQCCR).

  • Radiotherapeutic to diagnose and treat GBM (in collaboration with GlyTherix)
